Participatory Action Researcher Job Description
POSITION: Participatory Action Researcher for the SISTA FIRE Project
ORGANIZATION: The Center for Community Transformation, LLC
POSITION LEVEL: Part time temporary position 15 hours per week, 6 weeks beginning mid-July, 2017 – extensions may be available
REPORTING STRUCTURE: Reports to the Director of the Center
DESCRIPTION: The Action Researcher will utilize strategic community building and organizing techniques to engage neighborhood stakeholders for the purposes of identifying the needs of and issues impacting women of color 18-30 years old in Rhode Island. The research will support the development of the SISTA FIRE Project.
Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to these duties:
- Actively participating in a collaborative research process as a core team member
- Participating in all team training and meetings
- Developing research questions
- Identifying and recruiting participants
- Creating data collection instruments (such as surveys)
- Collecting information, gathering data from community stakeholders
- Inputting data
- Interpreting and analyzing findings
- Presenting findings in community gathering in the fall
- Making recommendations for change; advocating for use of findings
- Serving as liaison to stakeholders and neighborhood actors in community
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal
- Good analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
- Strong time and task management skills
- Genuine commitment and sensitivity to residents and community issues
- Respect for economic and cultural diversity, experience working with diverse groups of people
- Highly motivated and independent, yet team-oriented
- Must be able to work some weekends and evenings
- Reliable transportation a plus (not required)
- Computer and other standard office equipment skills sufficient to prepare flyers and other communications, maintain databases, and email
SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary is $14.00 per hour, 15 hours per week for 6 weeks, plus mileage or bus pass
