We believe our people deserve safety, dignity, and stability. We believe care belongs at the center of public life. We believe communities thrive when housing stays affordable, families stay together, and resources flow toward collective well-being. This vision guides how we organize at SISTA Fire. It anchors how we respond in moments of crisis and pressure.
Right now, the U.S. government is escalating violence abroad and harm at home. On January 3, U.S. forces attacked Venezuela and kidnapped its elected president and his wife to assert control over the region and secure oil for corporate interests. This act followed a long history of U.S. intervention across Latin America. Many of our people live with the consequences of this violence every day.
At the same time, this administration is cutting funding for childcare, education, food access, and the arts. Families face rising costs while public support disappears. These choices reflect priorities. War and profit receive protection. Care does not.
Here at home, the government continues to detain and deport community members without due process. These actions tear families apart. Many targeted families came here after the U.S. destabilized their homelands through economic pressure, political interference, and military force. The harm moves across borders. The impact lands in our neighborhoods.
This moment aims to overwhelm us. Fear spreads fast. Exhaustion sets in. Our ancestors faced this before. They organized. They built power. We carry their lineages of resistance forward.
You see this commitment in our local work. We will continue to build power in Providence to shape policies rooted in care, connection, and stability. Housing stands at the center. Rents continue to rise while wages do not. Families face displacement. Communities fracture.
We are fighting for Rent Stabilization to keep people housed and neighborhoods intact. A press conference is scheduled for Tuesday, January 20th, time TBA, to announce the release of the Ordinance. The Rent Stabilization Ordinance will be officially introduced on Thursday, January 22, at 6 PM at the Providence City Council. Join us there. Your presence matters. Your voice strengthens our collective demand for homes people can afford, and futures people can plan.
